Welcome to AutoRun version 3. This tutorial is designed to explain the interface in AutoRun and help you get used to navigating through your project. In other tutorials I’ll go into more detail about creating specific projects. If you’ve used AutoRun in the past you’ll notice that there have been a lot of changes to the interface. The first thing you see when AutoRun starts is this opening screen. From here you can Create a new project or Open an existing one. I’ll start a new project and name it Test Project. As you can see the screen is made up of 4 areas, the project workspace, the project controls, the settings area and the help section. The project controls consist of 10 buttons (which are used to add Viewers to your project), as well as buttons to Create, Test and view your project folder. If you want your CD to open a file, click on the File Viewer button, if you would like to display a Splash Screen click on that button, and so on. The Create button will copy your files into your project folder and configure AutoRun. The Test button will simulate running your CD. The project workspace will contain the content of your project, the viewers you want to open, and the order you want them opened. Click on an item from the workspace and you can alter its properties in the Settings area below. You can also re-order the Viewers by dragging them to a new position. Your overall project settings and security settings are found here as well. The project settings area will change depending on which Viewer is selected from the workspace. You can adjust the settings for each Viewer and test out the changes as you go. Throughout AutoRun you will notice help icons. Click on these icons to get more information about a particular item. You can also right click on buttons in the project controls for information on what they do. One last item to take note of is the About Box. You can open it from the menu or by pressing the F1 key. The About Box contains the program version and date. Compare these values to those listed on our download page to make sure you have the most recent version of AutoRun. The About Box also contains useful links, and a list of changes that were made with each release. It doesn’t take long to get used to the interface, and once you do, creating your projects is a breeze. Be sure to check out the other tutorials, which deal with creating actual projects.
